At Creative Package, sustainability is at the core of everything we do. Our commitment to the environment drives us to constantly seek new solutions for each project and product, collaborating with our international team to reduce our ecological footprint. We only have one planet, and we’re dedicated to preserving its health.
One significant environmental challenge is the loss of plastic resin pellets. When these tiny pellets escape into the environment, they can wash into waterways, polluting ecosystems and posing serious risks to wildlife.
To address this issue and safeguard the environment, Creative Package actively takes part in Operation Clean Sweep — a worldwide initiative that supports companies in their efforts to eliminate plastic resin loss during manufacturing and handling.
What is Operation Clean Sweep?
Operation Clean Sweep was established with the goal of ensuring that resin is managed responsibly and does not end up polluting the environment — a mission we fully endorse.
Launched in 1991 by the Plastics Industry Association (PLASTICS) and overseen jointly with the Plastics Division of the American Chemistry Council (ACC), Operation Clean Sweep has expanded to over 60 countries worldwide beyond the United States. The initiative addresses the issue of pellet loss throughout the plastics supply chain, including suppliers, processors, converters, and all other stages involved.
Our Approach to Preventing Pellet Loss
At our facilities, we employ five key internal measures to reduce pellet loss.
Our approach begins by thoroughly educating and training our staff so they fully understand both the significance of minimizing pellet loss and the reasons behind our rigorous efforts in this area. Once our workforce is properly informed, we provide comprehensive standard operating procedures for handling resin deliveries, including practical examples from our own plants on how to prevent pellet loss.
Next, we clearly communicate the necessary actions to take if a spill occurs, aiming to limit any resulting pellet loss as much as possible. To further safeguard against accidental release into the environment, we keep all potential exit points — such as storm drains and grates — secure and protected at all times.
Regular inspections are also a cornerstone of our process, ensuring that every site upholds our strict standards and that pellet loss remains as low as possible.
Through these initiatives, Creative Package aligns its practices with anticipated European Union regulations targeting microplastic pollution as part of the Circular Economy Action Plan and Zero Pollution Action Plan. As an international organization, it is vital that we follow both national and global recommendations to responsibly manage and reduce plastic waste.
