There are three different types of plastic Pellets : cylindrical filament type Pellets; water ring Pellets which are flat and rounded, similar to aspirins; and underwater pellets that are more spherical with a higher density.

Plastic Pelletization Process

Production of plastic Pellets is a four-step procedure:

1. Mixing: The raw materials are provided. Mixing: Addition of steam and other additives.
2. Pelletization: A preform is formed by applying pressure, and then it is cut into pieces to create pellets.
3. The final step is to remove the water from the product.

The third step is crucial, as the size and shape of the Pellets will determine the quality of resin that can be used to manufacture containers. For high-quality Pellets to be produced, several factors must be taken into consideration, including the manufacturing speed, and the temperature of water used to cool the pellets.

The size of the Pellets is important, because very small Pellets may cause aesthetic problems in the bottles. However, overly large Pellets could lead to issues such as variations in viscosity and crystallization times, or cracking in containers for carbonated beverages. pellets with trapped air can also result in a bad finish.
